The city of Rotterdam is located in South Holland, the Netherlands and is the home of great architecture, great museums, and very interesting history and of course great sports and shopping! People come from all around to visit the second largest sports stadium in the country and to stroll down the leisurely streets shopping for various treasures while looking at the beaches that were created along the river.
Great Sports Teams
Football is one of the most popular sports in Europe and it's especially the case in The Netherlands. Rotterdam is the home of 3 different football organizations and the teams are world champions in the country’s favorite sport. Stadion Feyenoord was built in 1931 and is the second largest football stadium in the Netherlands. The stadium will seat a little more than 50,000 people and you will usually find it filled to the max as most of the city emerges from their homes to watch their favourite teams battle it out in football matches that are some of the most high energy you'll ever find.
Rotterdam is also fond of running marathons. Some of the fastest marathon courses in the world are found in the city by the river. In 2010, the Grande Depart Tour De France, which is very well known when it comes to international marathons, was chosen to be hosted by Rotterdam. Hosting the Tour de France was a great accomplishment for Rotterdam even though it wasn't the first time The Netherlands had hosted the race.
Shopping in the City
Rotterdam is well known for its shopping and that is because the city has many streets that only pedestrians can travel on, and many of the shops are located on these streets. These streets were opened in the early 50s and they were the first city in The Nethlands to offer such streets. You can find some great shops on these streets and you can even find premium shopping centers, one of them being the Alexandrium, which is located on the Eastern portion of the city.
If you want to locate these premium shopping centers, a massive transportation system has been constructed to include rail systems that go hand in hand with seven stations and four trains, six highways and those can all be used to get into the city, and there is even a light rail and a subway that reach wherever you need to go. A tram and bus lines also contribute to modes of transportation around the city and all of these lead right into the heart of Rotterdam shopping venues.
So now you know that Rotterdam has so much to see and do, including sports teams and shopping and more than enough transportation to get you around. This is a historical place that when visited, will leave you with a sense of wonder and amazement at what goes on in this major port of Europe. Even though the city has been knocked down and rebuilt, it continues to expand and grow and it's much better than it has ever been before.
